The January issue of Smithsonian has an interesting article about the year 1908. A hundred years ago the Wright Brothers were proving that aviation might become practical, President Theodore Roosevelt was sponsoring projects like the Panama Canal and the Great White Fleet, and pundits were thinking ahead to what 2008 might hold. Smithsonian articles are available in several Galenet databases, but it may be a few weeks before this article is online. Stop by the Parham Campus Library to read the article in print.
